Ulfert Wilke (German/American, 1907-1987). Oil on canvas titled “Red, Blue, and Slate,” 1968. This graphic painting depicts bold, calligraphic linear forms spreading across the canvas in a bright red, outlined with blue, on a dark background. The artwork is signed and dated along the verso. An exhibition label from the San Francisco Museum of Art, dated 1971, is affixed to the stretcher, as is a partial collector’s label.
