The Mata Oritz style developed by Quezada revives ancient pottery traditions from Casas Grandes (Paquime), a prehistoric archeological ruin near Chihuahua, Mexico. In this style, the pots are hand-formed without the use of pottery wheels. All materials – clay and paints – are natural and obtained locally from around the village.
