Joseph Hoffmann (Austrian, 1870-1956) for Jacob and Josef Kohn, Austria. Bentwood “Sitzmaschine” model 670 chair with adjustable back. Partial label to the underside reading “Teschen, Austria.” This chair was designed for Hoffmann’s Purkersdorf Sanatorium in Vienna which was one of the first important contributions to the Wiener Werkstatte movement. Inspired by the Morris chair, this work was in production from ca. 1905-1916. Provenance: From the Estate of Horst Rechelbacher, Osceola, Wisconsin. Horst Rechelbacher, the founder of Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients, was a pioneer in the field of safe and eco-friendly cosmetics. The same curiosity that led him to explore ways to improve the beauty industry led him to travel the world, collecting rare and beautiful objects as he went.
