James McConnell Anderson Shearwater Pottery Block Print on Paper

James McConnell Anderson (b. 1942). Shearwater pottery color block print on textured paper, depicting three Shearwater birds in flight over water. Pencil signed and dated 1992 along the lower center. James McConnell Anderson was born on August 9, 1907, in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1928, Peter the brother of James opened the Shearwater Pottery Factory in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Two years later in 1930, they began working at the Annex, where Mac made molds, fired the products and oversaw the production of Shearwater. In addition to making pottery, James also produced wood sculptures, paintings, woodcarvings, watercolors, and woodcut designs on paper and fabric.
