Charcoal, pastel, and acrylic on canvas titled “The Enigma of the Tree,” 1987, depicting a leafless tree trunk adorned with birds, insects, flowers, skulls, and a mask, all over a misty abstract background. The artwork is signed, titled, dated, and inscribed with the media and measurements along the verso. There is a gallery label affixed along the verso from Betsy Rosenfield Gallery, Inc., Chicago, Illinois, which lists the artwork’s information as well as the inventory number # C1087CY.08. There is additionally a collector’s label along the verso that records the acquisition of the work from the above gallery on November 13, 1987.
