After William “Bill” Tarr (American, 1925-2006). Bronze maquette of Tarr’s monumental welded self-weathering steel cube sculpture in New York City in memorial of Martin Luther King, Jr. On a stepped wooden base. The original sculpture sits on a wide plaza on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Educational Campus, the former location of Martin Luther King Jr. High School, which closed in 2005. The steel, called Mayari R, was also used in a curtain wall of the building. The cube features sunken and elevated planes on which quotes and abbreviations are set alongside textured planes. Tarr was known for his abstract and textured cubic and rectangular brutalist sculptures. Height: 10 in x width: 10 in x depth: 10 in.
