Piranesi Large Map Campus Martius 1762
Giovanni Battista (Giambattista) Piranesi (Italian, 1720-1778). “Ichnographiam Campi Martii Antiquae Urbis,” from “Campus Martius Antiquae Urbis” (Rome, Giovanni Battista Piranesi), 1762. This large map depicts a reconstruction the Campus Martius of ancient Rome, and was published alongside Piranesi’s book on the subject, which was the result of a decade of research. The work is dedicated to Scottish architect Richard Adam, who was closely involved in Piranesi’s research. The map has been mounted to a canvas.
