This hand colored map of Africa originates from Ortelius’ “Theatrum Orbis Terrarum.” The map shows political divisions within Africa, along with highly decorative detail, including sea monsters and ships in the ocean and an elaborate title cartouche, which additionally contains the text “Africam Graeci Libyam App.” Latin text along the verso.
